What are we building??

What are we building??

Well although I wouldn't say we spent ages looking for a builder we did do a little investigating. There was a house and land package on the block already with Clarendon homes and we loved the plan and their display homes. We requested a tender with them for their 5 bedroom and a study Wentworth 35 design. The price was also extremely reasonable... After going to other builders with that price we could not find one that could come close to price or even layout of the house for that matter.

Now our big plan was to build a double story house so we could maximise the yard space for our three very energetic young boys to burn off some energy. We also wanted the house to have all the rooms and luxuries that we would need for the next 20 years... yep im not doing this again :)

The Wentworth was a fantastic plan with a few little things we wanted to change.. By the time we finished with these changes we realised that for just a couple thousand extra we could upgrade to the Sheridan 38 which was a much larger house and a better layout with more spacious bedrooms.

That very day we took a trip out to the Sheridan 38 on display at Yarabilba and confirmed that it was the house for us..

Here is the original Sheridan 38 Floorplan

We made a few tweaks to a couple walls to come up with this....

You can see a virtual tour of our house here
Note: This house is slightly different with an extra rumpus room at the back of the house.

Our own piece of dirt

Our intention was to buy a block of land not too far from where we have lived for the last 10 years as its convenient for us.. close to family, work and the kids school. We have had our eye on a small land estate that had only released its first stage and were eagerly awaiting the release of Stage 2.. unfortunately this was delayed for several years so we have had to sit back and wait it out. Finally the time came and we were quick to jump on a small but perfect parcel of flat land (623m2) that we bought off the plan in the yet to be developed Stage 2. Now once again the waiting game began for the land to be developed and eventually registered... We were told September of 2014 the land would be registered... so we would have only 5 months to wait..... boy was that wrong!!!!

Here is the boys first time on our new dirt... they were more excited about the big blue excavator than they were about building a house.

Welcome to the start of our dream home

I have never blogged before and have so much information already that I don't even know where to start. I guess from the beginning right?? So for years we have been busy hunting for just the right house for our large family (ok to some its not large but to me 3 boys feels like a cricket team) Our problem has been that nothing we have found has been 'perfect'. Land too small, no playroom for the boys, not enough bedrooms etc. Does our perfect house exist out there??.... maybe so..but its not for sale or within our budget or in a place we want to live. So we eventually came to the conclusion that if you want something 'perfect' you have to do it yourselves..... we are going to have to build it!
